Up Your Smoothie Game

Ah hello April!

Spring is definitely here. Thank goodness! I am loving the lighter mornings, the slightly warmer days and all the pretty flowers bursting into life. Around this time of year I start moving away from warming bowls of winter fuel like porridge and stews, and towards big fresh bowls of salad and energising smoothies!  Continue reading “Up Your Smoothie Game”

Happy first day of spring everyone! I have been very quiet on the old blog front recently, but rest assured I have been busy, busy developing new recipes and ideas for the Kitchen!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Hearts

Can you believe that it is already February tomorrow? Where did January go?! This year is flying past already!

So February brings about Valentine’s day and I thought I would share with you one of my favourite recipes to make for this time of year! Raw chocolates filled with creamy peanut butter. Oh my gosh. So, so good. These little hearts are the perfect way to tell someone you love them.

Cacao Nicecream with Fresh Berries

By a show of hands, who overindulged this Christmas?

Me.

So guilty of this. So. much. cheese… Also how do those tiny canapés pack in so many calories? How??

Anyway, if you are like me and you feel the need to nourish your body with some delicious goodness – then look no further! I made this nicecream bowl the day after boxing day. I had managed to consume two roast dinners and endless amounts of canapés over the course of the festive break, and my body felt like it had turned into a (veggie) sausage roll. So I made this delicious bowl of yum. It was chocolatey enough to trick my mind into thinking I was being indulgent – but actually packed with goodness.

Chocolate and Peanut Butter Fudge

There are a lot of occasions coming up where the temptation to eat something unhealthy will strike: Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas, Friday nights… Chocolate is something that I find super hard to resist. Luckily I discovered something magical – cacao powder. I have used it in lots of my recipes before – like my raw chocolates and my overnight chocolate porridge. It really is amazing, it has a fuller flavour than cocoa. It also contains lots of nutrients and is a good source of antioxidants. It isn’t heat-treated during the processing part of its production, so this means it retains all the goodness of the cacao beans! Eating chocolate AND getting healthy? Er – yes please!!!

Raw Chocolate Caramel Slices

I am under no illusion that this recipe is super healthy. But it is healthier than its traditional sister tray bake – Millionaires’ Shortbread. How I hear you say? Well, first of all, this is made from raw cacao, which is sweetened only with honey! The health benefits of raw cacao are vast and in my opinion, it tastes better than normal chocolate! There is basically less sugar in this, and the ingredients used maintain most of their original nutrients – unlike the really processed stuff you get in shop. Raw Chocolate and Hazelnut Tart

Raw Chocolate and Hazelnut TorteOne of my aims in life is to create recipes that taste amazing and help you feel amazing! Believe me, this chocolate tart does exactly that. It is raw, dairy-free and oh-so delicious. The only sweetness comes from fresh dates and honey. The base tastes similar to ferrero rocher, whilst the filling tastes like chocolate pudding! In my earlier post, I talked about why cacao powder was so amazing – it works really well in this recipe as it provides the rich chocolatey flavour in both the filling and the crust.

Dairy-Free, Raw Chocolates!

Attention all chocoholics, put down your bar of conventional sugar-laden chocolate and check this recipe out. Now before I proceed, I must say that I am very lucky to work for an amazing online retailer who sell a plethora of delicious ingredients. I love my job. I get to test out all these crazy interesting products and taste these amazing health foods. Something that came to our attention a few years ago was cacao powder. Now cacao powder is possibly one of my favourite ingredients that we sell. Continue reading “Dairy-Free, Raw Chocolates!”
